The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of massage methods on labor pain in the active phase of the first stage. The research design used in this study was a quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest. The number of samples in this study was 38 people, 19 in the intervention group and 19 in the control group, with a simple random sampling technique. Data analysis used was the dependent t-test and independent t-test. The results obtained characteristics of respondents in the intervention group were mostly 24-29 years old (8 people) , parity >2 children (8 people) , and education level was high school (14 people) . While in the control group, most respondents were 24-29 years old (7 people) , parity >2 children (9 people) , and education level was high school (18 people) . The average pain intensity in the intervention group before massage was 7.26 and after massage was 4.74, while in the control group before massage it was 7.00 and after massage it was 6.16. The results of the dependent t-test of pain intensity before and after massage in the intervention group obtained a P value of 0.000 and in the control group before and after massage obtained a P value of 0.007. The results of the independent t-test can be concluded that there is a significant difference after the massage method was carried out in the intervention group, namely a P value of 0.001. From the results of this study, it is known that there is an effect of the massage method on reducing the intensity of labor pain in the active phase of the first stage of labor in inpartu mothers. Therefore, it is recommended that midwives apply the massage method as an intervention to reduce pain in the care of mothers giving birth normally.
