Correlation Of Escherichia Coli In Drinking Water Depots With Diarrhea Incidence
Keywords:

This research aims to analyze the relationship between Escherichia coli contamination in drinking water depots and the incidence of diarrhea in Taman Deli Kencana Housing Complex, Sibiru Biru Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency in 2025. The background of this study highlights the fact that diarrhea remains one of the main public health problems, particularly those related to unsafe drinking water that does not meet microbiological standards. This study employed a cross-sectional design involving 76 respondents selected using purposive sampling according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Primary data were obtained through laboratory tests of E. coli levels in drinking water depots and direct observations of diarrhea incidence using structured questionnaires. The results showed that 57.9% of drinking water depots did not meet the bacteriological standards due to the presence of E. coli, while 53.9% of respondents had experienced diarrhea in the last three months. The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between E. coli contamination in drinking water depots and the incidence of diarrhea (p-value = 0.000). It can be concluded that poor drinking water quality significantly increases the risk of diarrhea in the community. These findings are expected to contribute to local health authorities in strengthening water quality monitoring and educating the community to always choose safe and proper drinking water sources.
